I believe in the power and potential of culture writing as a tool of more than documentation, but healing, recognition, and care. Writing about culture is an art form of its own and has a profound place that many people overlook. When we write about art, artists, music and TV from places of care, justice, and creative curiosity, thinking about driving a conversation, we encourage readers to uncover their own process of meaning making while articulating what resonates with us. At the very least- we help people unpack their own thoughts and connections to art, provide context, and help people to come together in conversation and reflection.
I got my start as a journalist covering the local musicians, artists, writers, zinesters, and other creatives in my community who inspired me, with an awareness to past and present cultural and political moments, and I treat all of the work I do today in that same style.
Currently I am a freelance contributor at LA Times, Spin, and LA Mag and I have contributed to Tom Tom Magazine, OC Weekly, LA Weekly, Razorcake, and Get It Together, and have been a guest on podcasts, NPR and KPFK.
